Woman clears top of fridge – and finds jackpot Lottery ticket

Our kitchen appliances can hide all kinds of detritus gathered over the weeks, months and years – but a lucky group of Cheshire women is celebrating after a clear-out on top of one of their fridges uncovered a winning lottery ticket worth £1.7million.

The ticket lay concealed on top of the appliance at one of the six women's home near Warrington for six weeks before Julie Phillips checked it, having forgotten about it over the Christmas and New Year period.

And this week, the syndicate members were presented with their cheque, which netted them more than £293,000 each.

Syndicate member Julie Phillips was the one who had the ticket concealed in her kitchen, and after receiving the group's cheque, she told the Daily Mirror: "It was only because I was in Warrington shopping and walked past the kiosk where I normally buy our tickets that I decided to check."
