LG now lets users text their washing machine thanks to Line app

LG’s impressive new Smart Appliance lineup, HomeChat, will benefit from Natural Language Processing (NLP) – letting users converse with their washing machine/dryer and robotic vacuum cleaner by issuing a set of commands.

Such examples include enabling power-saving mode for your refrigerator, if you inform the system “I’m going on vacation”.

Other instances also sees the app providing you with updates as to the contents of your fridge, your robotic vacuum cleaner sweeping the floor at a scheduled time each day as well as programming the washing machine to run a cycle the day before you arrive.

President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company, Seong-jin Jo, said: “Always at the forefront of innovation, LG is continually striving to inspire smarter consumer lifestyles in meaningful ways.

“We’re excited to be able to bring to CES our smart appliances with the newest communication and intelligence capabilities.”

The app will be available for Android, BlackBerry, Nokia Asha, iPhone, Windows Phone as well as computers using Mac OS and Windows.
