A south-west England electrical stores group has boosted its sales and profits by installing working demonstration models of a range of domestic appliances.
Gloucester-based John Gillman & Sons (Electrical) has revealed that the changes helped it increase its pre-tax profits by more than 90 per cent in the year to April 30.
The company operates a single electrical goods shop, in Gloucester, and a business wholesaler, Domestic Appliance Distributors, based in Tewkesbury.
Over the past year, the Gloucester store has seen appliance manufacturers such as Miele, Maytag, Siemens and LG set up concessions featuring working model displays.
Company managing director Adrian Gillman said these had helped the business compete against larger retailers and online competitors.
"You see working displays which you can't on the internet, and that's been a big driving force for people to come in-store.
"My advice to other retailers in our sector would be it's definitely worth it. People want to see what they are buying," he told Insider business magazine.
