Sony eyes IoT expansion
Electronics giant Sony has revealed that it is aiming to expand its Internet of Things (IoT) presence in Europe this year.
Speaking to CNBC, the Japanese firm's mobile boss Hiroki Totoki revealed that Sony considered Europe a potential key avenue of growth in 2016. He said that Sony would embark on a strategy of careful and considered expansion in the sector.
"Currently our IoT business group is 20 or 30 people. In Europe we will set up that sort of size at the initial stage and try to expand gradually," Mr Totoki explained. "In 2016, we have to do a lot of trials and a lot of test case(s) we have to develop."
Mr Totoki added that Sony's primary focus would be on business to business markets as demand for wearable IoT technology had so far not taken off as originally anticipated.
