Smart TV sales set for new peak
Tens of millions of new smart TVs will be sold around the world this year, new research has indicated.
According to a report from market analyst MIC, the total global shipment volume for smart TV sets will total around 88 million units in 2015. The devices are set to increase their share of the LCD TV market to 41.2 per cent.
"Consumers' high acceptance of high-end products drove the Japan Internet TV penetration to over 50 per cent in 2014," said MIC industry analyst Cindy Gu.
"In western Europe where broadcasters have deployed open standard interactive platforms such as Hbb.TV and aggressively introduced Internet TV services, the penetration rate reached nearly 40 per cent," she added.
While China accounts for approximately 60 per cent of the global smart TV market, smart TVs penetration across emerging markets amounts to only 20 per cent.
