Samsung unveils smart appliance chips
Technology giant Samsung has unveiled its latest generation of chipsets, which it says will power a wide range of internet of things (IoT) appliances.
According to CNET, Samsung Electronics' chief strategy officer Young Sohn revealed the South Korean's firm new Artik chipset platform at the IoT World trade event in San Francisco this week.
Described as a "major company milestone", Samsung is hopeful that Artik could become the driving force behind a whole host of smart appliances in the years to come.
"Today, we face an unprecedented set of global challenges," Mr Sohn told delegates. "By continuing efforts to connect devices and people to achieve greater insights, we have a huge opportunity to work with others in the industry to tackle these real-world issues."
The move comes after a turbulent period for Samsung's smartphone business, which has shed half its share of the Chinese mobile market to Apple.
