Bosch boss talks internet of things
The chief executive of manufacturing giant Bosch has offered a glimpse into the company's future, which he says has the internet of things (IoT) at its heart.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Volkmar Denner said that smart appliances were central to his vision for Bosch and warned that manufacturers who saw technology as a threat risked making a costly blunder.
Mr Denner also noted that it was not yet clear which companies would take advantage of the IoT most effectively.
"It's not a given that the IT-based companies that have no footprint in the physical world will dominate the ones that own the physical world and [are moving] into the networked world," he explained.
Last year, Bosch joined the Industrial Internet Consortium alongside US tech firms including GE and Cisco.
