Microsoft and Miele team up for smart appliance project
Technology giant Microsoft and electronics manufacturer Miele have joined forces for a new partnership which could inspire the development of new smart appliances.
It was announced at the Hannover Messe trade fair last Sunday that the two firms had teamed up to produce a proof-of-concept study aimed at identifying new internet of things (IoT)-inspired home electronics projects.
Based on Microsoft's Azure IoT services, the project aims to improve user experiences by using the internet. As part of the study, users will be able to download recipes from Miele's website to their smartphone or tablet.
The information will be simultaneously uploaded to Miele's smart oven through Azure, so that the optimum operating mode, cooking time and temperature are automatically set.
"This is just one example of how the Internet of Things and cloud technology are moving from enterprise experiences to delivering connected consumer experiences," said Sanjay Ravi, Microsoft's managing director of discrete manufacturing industry.
