As the trend for synchronised devices continues, it seems household appliances are looking for a piece of the ‘smart’ action. Swedish manufacturer, Electrolux, revealed they are to launch their first connected oven later this year. The oven downloads recipes from the company’s cookery app and even features a built-in camera, so you can keep an eye on your dishes cooking progress from elsewhere! The announcement is part of an industry wide shift towards integrated smart appliances and home automation following Google’s acquisition of Nest Labs and Apple’s development of the HomeKit concept.
Though this is not the Scandinavian businesses first venture into the world of suped-up appliances - Electrolux’s previously failed products included a fridge with a built-in screen - the company are confident they have learned from and refined their offering with this latest oven, as Chief Operations Officer Jan Brockmann explains, “The more things you connect, the more risk of confusing consumers…The solution has to be a common ecosystem, communication standards that are safe and aligned.”
