Academics reveal best way to load dishwasher
The authors of a new study claim that they've finally discovered the best way to load a dishwasher.
According to the Daily Mail, scientific research carried out at the University of Birmingham found that loading dishwashers in a circular manner - rather than in straight rows - helped to deliver more effective cleaning results.
The researchers also noted that dishes should be grouped together by stain, with carbohydrate-stained plates placed in the middle and protein-stained plates ringed inward-facing around them.
"The distribution of water inside a commercial dishwasher is very chaotic," said Dr Raul Perez-Mohedano, who led the study. "Areas with a direct impact from the water jets are very localised and these are only able to cover a very small area of all the crockery surface present."
He also called on manufacturers to consider amending the design of dishwashers so that water is distributed in a more effective and efficient way.
