Charity Walk Sees Staff Carry Washing Machine Around Isle Of Wight

Employees from Currys and PC World will be raising money in a slightly unconventional way by walking around the Isle of Wight – whilst carrying a washing machine.

Staff from the two retailers will be fundraising for three of the Island’s independent lifeboats: Sandown and Shanklin, Ryde and Freshwater.

The event will take place on July 20, where the walkers will set off from Newport – with the excursion set to last six days. Covering roughly 75 miles, they’ll be collecting donations as they make their hike.

Mark Birch, of Sandown and Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat, said: “They did Walk the Wight last year, in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, and this year they wanted to support another Isle of Wight cause.

“They heard about us thanks to Go Orange Day, the fundraising and awareness event for independent lifeboats in February, and we were honoured they chose us.

“The staff are very, very, enthusiastic.”

In addition to collecting money and sponsorship, the stores businesses have also set up a raffle; offering prizes worth thousands of pounds.
