First social media and food mash-up to hit freezer cabinets

Frozen food retailer Birds Eye is launching a new line in its prepared potatoes range designed especially to appeal to a tech-savvy generation.

Mas#tags are pieces of mashed potato shaped into five different social media references, reported Irish food trade website FFT.ie.

So now, switched-on kids can gobble up hashtags, a smiley face, an asterisk, a heart and the @ symbol with their bangers or fish fingers.

Senior brand manager at Birds Eye, Pete Johnson, said: “Social media is all about conversation and we’re confident Mashtags will resonate across various groups of people.” 

The new potato concoctions will be available in supermarkets and frozen food shops from next month.
