Stewart, from Uplawmoor, has set up his 0800 Repair franchise in the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde area and he is finding a keen market.
“It makes a lot of sense for people to have their domestic appliances fixed these days, because it saves money and it’s also kinder to the environment,” he said.
Stewart decided on 0800 Repair as his new business because he was impressed with the record of the company, whose franchisees repair domestic appliances around the country.
“One of the things I liked was the bright yellow van with the 7ft screwdriver on top – everyone looks at it, and it’s a great marketing tool!” he said.
Stewart, who will be moving to Neilston shortly, lives with his partner Ruth and his two daughters. When choosing his new career, he felt his 25-year engineering background was an asset in the repair business.
“I started off as a car mechanic, and a lot of the work I do relates to that, such as fitting bearings and pumps,” he said “I’ve also been a caravan engineer, so I had experience with electrics and fridges before I did the intensive 0800 Repair training course.”
0800 Repair managing director Paul Feek welcomed Stewart to the company.
“Stewart’s engineering experience certainly gives him the expertise he needs to repair all sorts of domestic appliances quickly and efficiently,” he said.
“People living in the area round Renfrewshire and Inverclyde will really benefit from his services, and we feel he’ll go far with his new business.”
